The right place to begin is the concern you need assessed. You do not need to choose an operation before seeing an ophthalmologist.
Key points
- Describe the symptoms and when they began.
- Bring previous eye reports, prescriptions and operation details.
- List all eye drops, medicines and allergies.
- Seek urgent care locally for sudden vision changes.

Bring the information you already have
Useful documents include your latest examination, glasses prescription, visual-field tests, OCT or other scans, details of earlier surgery and the names of current drops. Ask the clinic which originals or digital copies it needs.
Confirm the details before travelling
Check the doctor, facility, appointment date, examination fees, language support and any preparation instructions. Ask whether dilation or treatment could affect driving, and plan your transport accordingly.
Do not delay urgent eye care
New flashes, a sudden increase in floaters or a curtain-like shadow over vision need urgent assessment by an eye doctor or emergency department. Do not wait for travel arrangements.[1]
